Memorandum of an agreement 14th April 1828 between Thomas Coats and 16 Partners and William Crawhall on behalf of Thomas Richard Beaumont Esq, viz Thomas Coats and 16 Partners, agrees to raise ore at Farneycleugh from the allotment wall 200 fathoms west and 50 fathoms on each side of the Cleugh at 40/- pr Bing when clean dressed for three years from the above date and to have 10/- pr Bing over for the first 10 bings for sinking shafts driving drifts &tc so that Thomas Richard Beaumont Esq will be at no expence what ever but paying for the ore at the above price. Thomas Coats and sons had entered into a similar agreement on 16th November 1826 to raise ore at Blackcleugh.
