Yoadeparke, le Aldeparke, Yaldeparke, Yold Parke, Yoad-Park, Yoade-Parke
Yoadepark no longer exists as a seperate farm, having been amalgamated with Park House, Bank-end and Colepitt-How over the period 1723-1754 to form Muncaster Head farm (SD1499). See Janet Woodhead's notes
The progression of the name from Alde to Yald to Yold to Yoad is interesting. There is also, high on the fells above Devoke Water, Yoadcastle Crag; it seems there should be a connection.
The Pennington family bought the property in 1623. Strictly speaking they bought out the rights of the customary tenant - they already owned the property as Lords of the Manor. Thus when Nicholas Stevenson moved there from Miterdale, probably around 1656, he was a normal tenant, not a customary tenant with rights to dispose of the property. He made a will there in 1665 and died in May. In his will the value of Nicholas's stock lay in beasts and horses rather than sheep. There is still an area called Horse Parks to the west of Muncaster Head. The tenancy was probably taken over by Nicholas's eldest son, Nicholas, until he moved to Crosbythwaite sometime between 1675 and 1685.
