A sadler
1 Connected with Lionel Gatford c1600-1665? Unlikely. That Lionel married around 1641.
2 Lionel Gatford of Cuckfield, sadler, in 1661, 1662 (See 3a,b,c); a witness in Cuckfield in 1676 but referred to Lionel Gatford of Steyning, sadler (deceased) with a son John Gatford of Steyning in 1682 and 1688 (5,6). There were Gatfords in Steyning before this date and it is possible that there were Lionel Gatfords in both Cuckfield and Steyning, both sadlers but this would seem unlikely.
