Notes

Born c1775 at Thornthwaite according to the entry in the burial register at Gilcrux in 1853. 1

    Information from Ray Thackrah [raythackrah@yahoo.co.uk]

Matthew was born just before Sarah, the eldest known child of Henry Gregg, baptised in Thornthwaite in 1778.  This suggests that there is likely to be a close relationship between Matthew and Henry. It is worth noting that the registers at Thornthwaite only commence in 1775, though the chapel existed before that date.

Eleanor Grigg was buried on the 8th of May 1871 at Tallentire aged 75.2

Elleonor Nelson was born in Eaglescliffe (1861 census) and baptised on the 6th of May 1796 at Brigham.

Ray Thackray suggests that Matthew might be the son of John Grigg - a John Grigg was witness at Matthew's marriage.
