Notes

The diaries of Commissioner Thompson of Thornflatt, Drigg (Commonwealth period) (Source - marriage index for South Copeland - Neville Ramsden - Whitehaven Record Office)

All the baptisms, except 1672, are noted as 'John Hartley of Mitredale'

John left a will in 1699, and his wife Elizabeth also left a will later the same year following her husband's death (although she did not die till 1704). William and Edward had died, so Nicholas would have inherited the farm. John was left £80 - a substantial sum with which to set himself up. Bridgett and Elizabeth were left six pounds each.

Elizabeth, mentioned in her father's and mother's wills, was married in 1687, therefore probably born in 1661 or 1665.

Not son of Nicholas and Isabel Hartley of Church House since their son John had died before 1675.
