Richard Hartley

Son of Nicholas Hartley1

Children

Nicholas2

Notes

1    General fine of 1547 - joint tenants in the vicinity of Boot, rent 4/-

2    Mentioned in Percy Survey of 1578 as tenant as tenant of a property near Boot at a rent of 5/2 and, with his son Nicholas, as having built the frith wall at Wasdale Head. A tenant at the Bought in the Eskdale 24 Book (1587).

3    If Richard is a tenant in 1547, then he must have been at least 16 and born before 1531, more likely 1510-1520 (say c1515), and his father Nicholas 1470 - 1480 (say c1475).

4    If the younger Nicholas had helped his father build the frith wall by 1578, it would put his birth c1555 - which fits

5    In the General Fine of 1633 Nicholas Hartley is tenant of a property near Boot at a rent of 5/2 -the younger Nicholas?? No mention of Richard.

6    In 1632 a Richard Hartley marries Isabell Nycholsone at St Catherine's, Eskdale. If this Richard were born around 1600, then he could be the son or grandson of the younger Nicholas. There is no later mention of Richard Hartley in the Eskdale registers
