Thomas Hartley of Dawson Ground

Possibly Thomas Hartley, fourth son of Henry Hartley of Underbank, baptised  on the 17th of July 1692 at Eskdale, Cumberland5

Married Dorothy

Children

John, baptised on the 17th of August 1720 at Eskdale, Cumberland from Dawson Ground

Buried on the 23rd of March 1721 at Eskdale, Cumberland from Dawson Ground

Notes

1    William Dickinson left Dasson Ground to his daughter Sarah in 1763. Did he acquire this through his wife Elizabeth whose first husband had been Henry Hartley? (Henry might be Thomas's brother)

2    There was another Thomas Hartley who was buried from Berkerthwaite in 1720 who might have married Mary Tyson on the 28th of April 1713 at Eskdale, Cumberland, with children

?Jonathon, baptised on the 25th of October 1719 at Eskdale, Cumberland from Birker

3    The Tuition Bond following Thomas's death only mentions the one child, John, one year old.

4     This might be how Dawson Ground came into the Hartley family. Manorial records might prove/disprove this link.

5    This is not the Thomas Hartley, baptised on the 14th of October 1688 at Eskdale, Cumberland since he married Jane Nicholson and is mentioned in his brother John's will.  Is he the son of Thomas Hartley, baptised in 1668? A son Thomas is mentioned in Thomas's will. Being a younger son might account for a late marriage. No - Thomas Hartley's will refers to his son Thomas's wife Isabell.

Another possibility is Thomas, son of Henry Hartley, baptised on the 17th of July 1692 at Eskdale, Cumberland

6    Possibly the Thomas Hartley who married Maria Tyson on the 28th of April 1713 at Eskdale, Cumberland2,4

Children

Thomas, baptised on the 11th of March 1713 at St Catherine's, Eskdale, Cumberland
John, baptised on the 6th of May 1715 at Eskdale, Cumberland]

However this is unlikely since the children are not mentioned in his will and at 21 Thomas would have been very young for marriage by Eskdale standards.
