2    1841 census1861 census living in Bath. 1851 census visiting his prospective son-in-law in Bridgwater while the family remained in Bath. The family's ages in the three censuses are inconsistent - Thomas, Henry and Albert all being three years younger than the 1841 census indicates. The age of William (the father) in 1841 is consistent with the 1796 baptism (40-44) but he has gained 2 years by 1851 and 5 years  by 1861. Eliza gains 4 years between 1851 and 1861.

In 1841 Joan Williams, aged 78, is living with the family. It is suggested elsewhere that Eliza's maiden name was Williams and Joan may have been her mother. Also living with the family is  James Staples - possibly the widower of William's sister Fanny.

William R Orford, grandson, in 1861 census is almost certainly William R. Axford.

3    The birth of Julia Mary Holmes, mother's maiden name Williams, was registered in the Abbey sub-district of Bath in 1846 reference ABB/6/445. National index gives 4th quarter of 1846 (FreeBMD 11 4).

Jeanne Ross has pointed out that (from the census) Eliza Williams was born in Axminster, Devon (about 1806). An Eliza, daughter of James Uttermore Williams and his wife Jane was baptised on the 6th of January 1807 in Axminster. James Uttermore Williams married Jane Wheeler on the 4th of December 1799.
