John Nicholson

Son of John Nicholson and Isabel Troughton1, baptised on the 17th of November 17712  at Muncaster, Cumberland from Hollowstones

Married Ann Tyson4 on the 4th of January 1802 at Muncaster, Cumberland

Children

Hannah, baptised on the 4th of September 1802 at Muncaster, Cumberland

Died on the 29th of January 1833, buried on the 1st of February 1833 at Eskdale, Cumberland2

Purchases half of Hollowstones in 1801 following the death of his grandfather. Inherits5 the other half (in 1819?) from his father but not admitted until 1822. Sells the whole of Hollowstones to Benjamin Bibby in 1823.

Apparently contemplated marrying a Hannah Tyson in 1820. This would be on inheriting Randlehow following the death of his father

Notes

1    Made a will in 1832 naming his mother Isabella and his daughter Hannah Nichol. Probate gives date of death. The will left his property at Randlehow in trust for the benefit of his mother while she lived and then his daughter Hannah and her children, to be sold when the youngest child reached 21 and the proceeds shared among Hannah's children.

Allis Nicholson was to be allowed to stay in the 'Old House'. This would be Alice Holm, wife of Stephen Nicholson, who died in 1856 (at Green). Presumably it was her mother who was the Elizabeth Holmes who died at Randlehow in 1816.

2    The burial register of 1833 notes 'aged 66' (or 64). This was probably an error since it would have unusual (at this place and time) for the christening to have been delayed.
