Inscription at Irton (Transcription of Monumental Inscriptions at Irton, Anne Trembath 1980/92 at Whitehaven Record Office)
2 In the 1881 census Joseph is stated as living at Mill Green, Irton with Santon. Today (2004) there appear to be three houses at Mill Green - Mill Green Cottage and two others, one of which is Seedhill; a little further upstream is Gatesgarth. Gatesgarth is not mentioned in the 1881 census but Seat Garth is. Possibly Gatesgarth is Seat Garth is Skaitgarth, or possibly Skaitgarth is the other house at Mill Green. It seems likely that Joseph has remained in the same house since 1825 but he might have moved into the smaller cottage.
