1 John Nicholson mentioned his granddaughter Mary, wife of James Russel, in his will.
2 James Russel was from Bakerstead in Mitredale. Bakerstead barn is the only building remaining from the settlement at Mitredale Head. It is now an outdoor pursuit centre for a local school.
3 James Russel died at Randlehow and was buried at Eskdale on the 2nd of January 1829
