Son of a General Practitioner, John followed his father's profession. He did not marry until he was 44 but appears to have retired to the south coast.

His marriage to Rosa Emily Rowe was registered in the first quarter of 1890 in Hamstead (FreeBMD 1a 945). His death was registered in East Preston, Sussex in the third quarter of 1908 (FreeBMD 2b 186)
2 1851 census. 1861 census. 1871 census - his sister Ellen and her family are living with him. 1881 census. 1891, 1901 censuses - a General Practioner in Finchley. In 1901 he describes himself as 'Surgeon'
3 In 1890 John leased "land on West side of Great North Road abutting north on Ballards Lane and the messuage now erected or in the course of erection" - presumable Fairfields, where he was to bring up his family.
