Notes

1    According to an entry on the Internet page of 'Curious Fox' about Garvald, 'George Harkes married Jane Rattray in 1840'. In the IGI Jean Rattery married George Herkness on the 20th of November 1840. However see note 2.

A researcher into Harkes, Rattray is
"Jill Clark

researching COWE, BORTHWICK, LAMOND, HARKES, RATTRAY, NISBET, JENKINSON,
SANDERSON, BURNS, GRIEVE, GIBSON, BROWN"

2    Jane presumably moved down to Surrey with her father around 1818. However she is not living with her father in 1841. I have found no death 1837 - 1841.

3    Was Jane named after Janet? One possibly ancestry of her father George would make his mother Jannet Ritchie. However her mother's mother was Margaret. Where did the Julian come from? NB what was the name of the Marquis of Tweedale? George?

4    The marriage of a Jane Rattray was registered in the fourth quarter of 1838 in the City of London (FreeBMD 2 138). The marriages of David Murphy and William Oats were listed on the same page.

The marriage of a Jane Rattray was registered in the first quarter of 1840 in Clerkenwell, London.

The deaths of  two Jane Rattrays were registered 1837 - 1861 1839 Shoreditch, 1844 St Lukes
