Moved from Otley, Kent to 8, St James's Avenue, Hampton Hill, Middlesex when her niece Joan and family moved there about 1950. Was virtually housebound from that time. I (AJS) remember her coaching me in my 'times tables' in her room - she lived in the downstairs front room as a bed-sitter and never joined in the life of the family. I don't remember her dying in the house so I assume she spent her final months in a nursing home. We used to visit her in her cottage in Otley when I was a young child but I have just two memories - one of the lavender borders to her garden and the other of a little pottery house that she kept in her china cupboard into which you could put brown paper, light it and smoke would come out of the chimney. My sister now has the pottery house - and I have the cupboard. (2012).
