Robert Stephenson

Acquired Browyeat from his father in 1654 but surrendered it to his brother Nicholas Stephenson in 1656; acquired Swordhouse from his father just prior to his death in 1665, was still tenant in 1688 and until his death in 1705 or 1706, when he left Sword House to his son Thomas. However he appears to have moved to (Plumgarth?) Irton sometime before 1676 even though he retained Sword House.

1    In 1719 Robert (or Richard) Stephenson was admitted to the tenancy of Sword House following the the death of his father Thomas Stephenson (of Northwich, Cheshire)

2    Admitted to a tenement in 1654 surrendered by his father Nicholas Stephenson

Lady Day 1654: Robt. son of Nicholas Stephenson atti in Miterdale with several parcels of land (10/3; formerly Nicho. Nicholson's) with improvement adjoining (8d) surr by Willm. Nicholson; reserving occupation for life to the said Nicholas Stephenson & his wife Jennet. Ref 5.  D/LEC/314/7

This must be Browyeat (rental 10/3)

In 1656 he surrenders Browyeat to his brother Nicholas. (Had his father died leaving him Swordhouse?)

but is tenant of Swordhouse (rental 6/4) in 1674 (D/Lec/94 - Eskdale Rentals 1674) - while Nicholas is still tenant at Browyeat.
