Since Thomas inherited Sword House he was presumably older than his brother Abraham born in 1676. (Abraham was one of the first baptisms recorded in the Irton registers)
Richard Stephenson inherited Sword House from his father in 1719, but in 1720 Robert Stephenson mortgaged the property to Phillip Stanley for £50.
"Robert Stephenson, of Cockermouth, eldest son and heir of Thomas Stephenson of Northwich, Cheshire, was surrendering his tenement in Mitredale" (Family Forest p59).
