2 Commonwealth War Graves Commission
3 From WW1 Service records - badly damaged (torn?). The record apparently has been mixed with the papers of a (John H.?) Kinley of the same (North Staffordshire) regiment. The birth date for Lily is very faint but appears to be January or February. The birth date for May is even fainter but appears to be 1906.
The next of kin is 'Wife Jane Swindale, 17 B[.....] Terrace, Bedlington' but also gives E[nid?] R[uth?] S[....] [Lily?? Mary? Swindale?] .... very faintly.

4 The only birth of of a George Swind* registered 1882-1885 in Northumberland was George Swindle registered in the second quarter of 1883 in the district of Tynemouth. (FreeBMD 10b 262). The district of Tyneside included Byth and Bebside and Cowpen and thus probably Bedlington.
5
1891 census has George D Swindle as stepson of William R and
Mary White. There is also a son William, one year younger. This implies
that George's father died shortly after his birth - 1882 to 1885?
There
is no matching registered death. This then implies that George was an
illegitimate son of Mary. Mary was born 1853/54 according to the 1891
census. There is a
Mary Ann
Swindle, aged 27, in the 1881 census in Allendale.
Not found in 1901 census.
Not living with
his stepfather.
