| In 1907 Jack was living at 9, Roslyn Avenue, Kenbury Street, Camberwell. He married
Mabel, also a teacher, in 1914. John Alexander was born at 2 Morna Road, Camberwell. This is a three
story terraced house in Denmark Hill. Originally Jack and Mabel lived in the
middle floor while a Mr and Mrs Flynn lived on the ground and upper floors but
when Margaret was born Jack and Mabel took over the ground and upper floors
while the Flynns moved to the middle floor. |

During the First World War Jack
served as a 2nd Corporal with the Royal Engineers from 1916 - 1918. Mabel moved
up to Liverpool to Jack's sister Lily for the birth of Harold and his twin
Walter. In 1927 or 1928 the family moved from Morna Road to 20 Frankfurt Road, a
mile away in Herne Hill and they lived there until the start of the Second World
War. Jack's school was evacuated to Ewhurst (Sayers Croft Camp School) and he
moved out with them while (Mabel and Margaret?) went to Swindon. Jack was
spending a few days of the summer holiday in Harrow with his sister-in-law,
Fanny, and her husband Fred when he died. |
