1 In the 1881 census Sarah is living, still not married, with her brother in Henshaw, Northumberland. John William Swindale is stated to be John's nephew, born in Henshaw. In the 1891 census Sarah is housekeeper to John Dunwoodie at Smith Shield, Henshaw. Her son J W Swindle is living with her. John is living with his uncle at the time of the 1901 census.
2 The marriage of a John Swindle was registered in the second quarter of 1905 in Haltwhistle. However this could have been John Swindle born 1872.
3 Enlisted in 1915 and posted to DLI. REgimental number 348412. Survived war.
4 The death of a John W. Swindle aged 82 was registered in the first quarter of 1962 in the district of North Durham (1a 483)
