Served an apprenticeship as an engineer (1851), then an engine fitter in 1861; working as an engine fitter at Benwell, Northumberland at the time of the 1871, 1881 census possibly in the mines but more likely in Armstrong's ordnance factory at Elswick where he was in 1891 and 1901.
Died 1913 at the age of 73

It would thus appear that this becomes a family name in this branch of the
family. I am not aware how common Lancelot became as a Christian name. A
Lancelot Swindles died in Prescott (Liverpool) in 1882, one year old.
3 The birth of a Lancelot Swindle was registered in the fourth quarter of 1839 in Newcastle upon Tyne district. His death at the age of 73 was registered in the same district in the third quarter of 1913. (Information from Norman Swindle).
4 Lancelot's birth is recorded as Newcastle under Lyme (Staffordshire). Is this an error? His death in 1886 is recorded in Newcastle upon Tyne.
5 The birth of a Phoebe Elizabeth Swindale was registered in Newcastle upon Tyne in the first quarter of 1882. (Information from Norman Swindle)
