In 1871 Mary describes herself as farming Low Houses, Garrigill with William, Sarah and Susannah helping her. However William is presumably the main farmer. After William dies in 1874 his brother takes over and remains at Low Houses until at least 1901.
Died on the 18th of May5, buried on the 22nd of May 1878 at St John's Garrigill, Cumberland, from Low Houses (the home of her son John) 2
1 Mary Archer is a common name but George and Mary's first son and daughter were named George and Susan (George's parents) and their second son and daughter were William and Mary. (William and Mary Archer also had an earlier daughter Mary baptised in 1799)
2 Mary Pattinson suggests 1892 for death but there is no matching entry in the register of deaths. There are entries for 1878 and 1887 for a Mary born around 1806. The death in 1878 is at Low Houses, Garrigill where her son John is living at the time of the 1881 census.
