Notes
There is another Vipond son of George Swindle and Susannah Vipond, baptised 28th May 1807 in Alston, Cumberland. The 1881 census, the burial entry and the register of deaths all indicate a birthdate of around 1813. This was a puzzle until Norman Swindle found the later baptism at Garrigill.
Norman Vickers Swindle is described in the marriage register as 35, father Vipond Swindle, grocer
'Cumberland Genealogy' lists Vipond Swindle as a shopkeeper in Keswick in 1901. This is apparently a 1901 directory. The other Vipond Swindle s I am aware of at present would have been 13 and 6 years old!
Vipond gives his age in 1871 as 59?. In 1881 census 67.
"History, Gazetteer and Directory of Cumberland" Mannix and Whellan 21st Dec 1847
Also living in the same house is Robert Bowness - probably the brother of his deceased wife. (The IGI gives Robert, son of William and Sarah Bowness, baptised 23rd Sep 1821 at Crossthwaite. It also give a date of death as 6 Jan 1829 but there is another Robert, son of James and Jane Bowness, baptised 30th June 1822 at Crossthwaite.)
