Notes

1    William's son Thomas was married by 1661. This implies a birth date around 1630 for Thomas and around 1600 for William. If Thomas was born after 1630 there is a good chance his baptism would have appeared in the register.

2    will 1620, 1592?

3    Agnes Vickars mentions her cousin the wife of William Viccars of Taythes in her will of 1622. The other cousins mentioned are William Sharppe and John Sharppe so it seems likely that Agnes' mother Isabell was a Sharp(pe).

4    William could be the son of Thomas, eldest son of William Vickars of Taythes. This would be consistent with his tenancy of the farm and with a naming pattern William - Thomas - William - Thomas.

In 1633 the two tenants of Taw House were named as Jo. Viccars and Willm Viccars. Jo: Viccars is presumably the son of William Vickars the younger of Taythes who died in 1620. Willm. Viccars must(?) be this William Vickars, dying in 1661. Thus Thomas Vickars, if his father, must have died before 1633. This is reasonable considering that that Thomas appears to have been adult in 1592 - there is no indication, either, that any of his four+ younger siblings were children. Thus a birthdate for Thomas of 1564 or earlier seems reasonable and in 1633 Thomas would have been 67+ if he had survived. THIS IS ALL (apart from the first sentence)  HYPOTHETICAL! (but good fun).

5    In 1547 the tenants of Taythes were Willm. Vycars and, probably, John Vicars and his son Willm. At some point we can assume a common ancestor William who had sons John and Thomas - though I wouldn't put any money on it!
