Died4 on the 28th of December 1828, buried on the 2nd of January 1829 at St Catherine's from Randlehow, leaving a will.
James was farming Bakerstead at the time of his marriage but had his children at Bankhouse. He bought Miterdale Head from John Coupland in 1779 (for his son James to farm?) and later went to live there3 before moving to Randlehow before his death.
Notes
1 James was living at Bakerstead in Miterdale when he was married, but all the children were born from Bankhouse. Betty was named as the child of James and Mary in the register. Before 1779 only the father was named in the Eskdale registers.
2 James's will mentions his son John, his three daughters Ann, Hannah and Elizabeth, his grandson James Russell and granddaughters Elizabeth and Ann Russell. John Russell does not mention a wife or children in his will but does mention a nephew, James. Presumably the grandchildren are the children of either James or Robert.
3 In the burial register, James is described as 'of Randlehow, formerly of Miterdalehead'. It would appear that he had returned to Miterdale.
