1 The baptisms are registered as the children of John and Sarah Wilson of Woodhow.
2 It appears that John's work at Woodhow may have been connected with the death of John Nicholson of Woodhow in 1787. John Nicholson's children were still young and although his brother was also farming at Woodhow it may be that John Nicholson's mother 'the Widow of Woodhow' brought John Wilson in to help out until her grandson William was of age.
However John Wilson obviously raised his family in the locality, whether at Woodhow or elsewhere, because both both Lanty and Hannah at least married locally.
Possibly John is the John Wilson who married Sarah Russel on the 29th of May 1773 at Eskdale Chapel, Cumberland. They had a son, John, in c1775, but the subsequent 11 year gap is unusual. However a John Wilson did have a son Lancelot in Irton in 1816 - see note 4 below - though the John born 1775 died 1859.
From a dates point of view the marriage of John Wilson and Sarah Barnes on the 7th of December 1785 (in St Mary's Carlisle) would fit better. There are no children of that marriage recorded at either St Mary's or St Cuthbert in Carlisle.

A Sarah Wilson was buried 31st July 1814 aged 64 from Dalegarth Hall
4 Considering that Lancelot might be a family name, I looked up Lancelot Wilson in Cumberland from 1660 - 1820 on the IGI:-
