The Will of Elizabeth Holm 1816

In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Holm
of Randelhow in Eskdale in the Parish of Saint Bees
in the County of Cumberland, Widow being weak in
Body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory,
blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and
publish this my last Will and Testament in
manner and Form following (that is to say) I give
and bequeath to my two granddaughters Marey Holm and
Bettey Holm, the sum of Twenty Five Pounds
a piece which said Legacies, or sums of Money I will
and order shall be paid by my Executor, herein
after named, to the said Legatees, as soon as the shall
attain the age of Twenty one Years, and in case
one of them should happen to die before she
attain the age of Twenty one years, and leave no
issue, Then and in such case, I will and order the
legacy her so dying under age as aforesaid,
to be payed to the surviver, and if in case the boath
die as afore said, the said Legacies, to be paid to
Sarah Holm, Mother to the aforesaid Legatees
I will and order that Interest of Fifty Pounds, be paid
to the aforesaid Sarah Holm, at the rate of Four pounds
Four Shillings Per Cent Per Annum every year
during the aforesaid Legatees Minoraty; I give and
bequeath to my two Grandaughters Marey Taylor and
Dorothy Taylor the sum of Twenty Five Pounds a piece
to be paid by my Executor when the shall attain
the age of Twenty one Years, and in case one of them
should happen to die before she attain the age of
Twenty one years, and leave no issue, Then and in such
case, I will and order the legacy her so dying under
age as aforesaid, to be payed to the surviver, and if in
case the boath die as afore said, the said Legacies to be
paid to George Taylor and William Taylor Brothers
to the aforesaid Legatees, I will and order that Interest
of Fifty Pounds after the rate of Four pounds, Four
Shillings Per Cent Per Annum be payed yearly to
William Taylor, Father to the aforesaid Legatees, during there minority
I give and bequeath to my daughter Alice Nicholson
the sum of Twenty Five Pounds to be payed by my
Executor Twelve Months after my Decease, and my
will is that Alice Nicholson is to have All my wearing
Apparal and Bed and Beding and my will is
that my granddaughter Dorothey Taylor have all
my Household Furniture at Owlaside.
And lastly all the Residue and Remainder of my personal
Estate, Goods and Chattels of What kind or nature soever
or wheresoever, I give and bequeath to my Son Edward
Holm, whome I hereby appoint sole Executor of this
my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all former
Wills by me made; In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my Hand and Seal this Twenty[third] Day of
July in the Year of Our Lord Christ One Thousand
Eight and Sixteen

On the seventh day of October in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen
this Will of Elizabeth Holme late of Randlehow
in the Parish of St Bee’s in the County of Cumberland
within the Archdeaconry of Richmond, in the
Dioceseof Chester, Widow, who departed this life
on or about the twenty third day of August in
the year aforesaid, was proved in common
Form, and Edward Holme of Hawkswell in
the Parish of Ulverston in the County of Lancaster
the sole Executor therein named, was sworn well
and faithfully to execute and perform the same,
and so forth – and that according to the best
of his knowledge, information and belief, the
whole of the goods, chattels and credits, of which
the said Testatrix Elizabeth Holme died
possessed, within the Archdeaconry aforesaid,
(exclusive of what the said Testatrix might
have been possessed of, or entitled to as a Trustee
for any other Person or Persons, & not bene=
=ficially, and without deducting any
thing on account of the debts due and
owing by and from the said Testatrix)
were under the value of two hundred
pounds
