George Swindall of Ashby=dela=Zouch in the County of Leicester yeoman
being weak in body but in my perfect remembrance doth make and ordaine
this
my last will and testament in manner and forme following Inprimis
I bequeath my soule unto God that gave it [...]fting to bee saved by the
only merritte of Jesus Christ my Saviour and my body to be buried in the
Church of Ashby=dela=Zouch aforesaid and for my worldl goods I first doe
give bequeath and devise unto my daughter Elizabeth Swindall foure
hundred pounds and if it shall happen that my Bills and bonds [.orsiff..sh]
and sheepe doe not amount to make upp the summe of ffoure
hundred pounds, my will is that the house I dwell in with halfe a yar[d]
Land thereunto belonging being schoole Lands in Ashby=dela=Zouch
aforesaid
shall be sett by my overseers hereafter mentioned to make upp the
aforesaid
summe of foure hundred pounds for the only use of my daughter Elizabeth
Swindall. Item I give unto my sonne John Swindall all my ffree [.....]

whatsoever, Item I give my sonne John all my Lease Land (except the
house
and Land before mentioned) for the use aforesaid and afterwards to the
only use of my sonne John Swindall and if it shall happen that at any
tyme
my sonne John Swindall shall desire to sell the Land that I have here
given him that then my will is then that my two daughters Susanna Abney
and..
and Elizabeth Swindall shall pay unto my sonne John Swindall [foure]
hundred pounds in Consideration of all the ffree Land and houses and my
two
daughters shall have the ffree hou[..] and Leases Equally between
themselves

Swindall and if it shall happen to my sonne John to depart this life

3 Sons George, Thomas and Robert baptised at Breedon on the Hill are not mentioned in the will. Presumably they died young (before 1663 when the eldest, George, would have been 20).
4 John appears to be under the age of twenty one at the time of the will, i.e, born after 1642. There is a large gap between sons Robert and Thomas, suggesting John could have been born around 1650.
5 The will mentions George's grandson, Henry. He is unlikely to have been the son of George, Thomas, John or Robert. Susanna's son was Robert and not born until after the date of the will. There it appears that there is a missing child born c 1641.
