The will of Henry Nicholson of Bought 1694

In the Name of God Amen the third daye of ffebruarie Anno Domi 1694 I Henry Nicholson of Bought in Eskdale within the pish of St Bees and county of Cumberland yeoman being in perfect mynde and memory praysed be God do make this my last will and testament in manner and forme ffollowinge
I give and bequeathe my soule into the hands of Almghty God and Christ Jesus my merciful saviour and Redeemer and my body to be buried in Decent and Christian Manner and as for my worldly goods and estate I give and bequeath the same as ffolloweth
I give and bequeath unto my God Children one shillinge apeece Also it is my will and minde that my wife shall have a third part of my goods and chattells after that my debts legacies and funerall expences be paide: And it is my will and minde that whereas my sonne William Nicholson has [given] and sealed unto me abond of twenty three pounds to be paide out of my  [tenitment?]  [Attendinge?] as I shall give and bequeath the same unto in and by my last will and testament or any other waye [.........]: Therefore it is my will and minde: And I give and bequeath the same as followeth Item I give and bequeath unto my five daughters Dorithy Sussan Jane Elizabath and Isabell each of them three pounds apeece: of part of the said bond and fund of twenty three pounds: which my said sonne William [are] bound to pay: Item I give and bequeath unto my two sonnes Henry and Thomas either foure pounds of the said bond being the Residue and Remainder of the saide bond of twenty three pounds to be paide unto my said five daughters unto my two sonnes when due as the shall accomplish theire severall ages of twenty one years: And it is my will and minde that if it shall please God that any of my said daughter and sonnes dye before they shall attaine to the age of twenty one yeares that theire part and legacie of the above said bond shall redound and fall unto my said sonne William Nicholson and he shall be [...] from payement of that part of them soe dyeinge: And it is my will and minde that my sonne William Nicholson shall have foure score of my sheep of them which goes [..r] the most at clippinge time Repayeinge unto my executors the sum of five shillinges apeece And it is my will and minde that my wife shall have the remainder of my sheep she payeinge or alowinge the same in her third [....] the sume of foure shillinges appeece: Item I give unto my sonne William Nicholson my [hark] and [Gavellerk] a litle chest and [bords] of the bodystead of my house which lyeth next joists: And all the Remainder and Residue of my goods chattells and Estate I give and bequeath unto my two sonnes Henry and Thomas and unto my five daughters Dorithy Sussan Jane Elizabath and Isabell whome I make whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament the payeinge my debts legacies and funerall expences: I appoint Robert Stephenson John Nicholson Thomas Tyson and John Viccars ffeoffees in trust to seeing will [......] and I give to each of them two shillings apeece this I declare to be my last will and testament in wtness whereof  I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the daye and yeare first above written

The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Janett Nicholson her Heirs Executors Adminstrators or Assigns or every one of them do well & honestly [.......] & bring up Henry Thomas Dorothy Susannah Jane & Elizabeth Nicholson the natural and lawfull children of Henry Nicholson late of Bought in Eskdall aforesaid deceased with sufficient meat drinke & cloaths & [.......] [.......] agreeable to their condition and estate during their minority & make a true assert Inventory of all & singular ye Goods Chattels & Credits belonging to ye said children and exhibit ye same into ye Registry of ye [.....all] Court at Richmond at or before ye Eighteenth day of April next ensueing ye date hereof and also make or cause to be made a true and just account of ye same when she shall be thereunto lawfully called And do also well and truely [content] satisfie pay or cause to be well and truly contented satisfied and paid unto ye said Henry Thomas Dorothy Susannah Jane & Elizabeth Nicholson their Executors Administrators or Assignes All such fillial or Childs part & portion Gifts Grants Legacies and other personal Estate and all other Rights dues & demands due or oweing to by the death of Henry Nicholson their late father deceased or otherwise when they shall accomplish ye Age of One & Twenty years be married or otherwise lawfully demand ye Same And moreover if needs require enter into [betterion] with more suerties for [.ormance] of ye premisses [.... .... ...] of ye said Court for ye time being shall think requisite & needful And lastly do save defend and harmeless keep ye within name & commissary & all his Off[...] & Ministers against all [persons] by reason of ye premisses. Then this present Obligation to be void or else to remaine in full force & vertue
