Will of John Gregg of Oldscales, Wythop, Cumberland 1731

In the name of God Amen. I John Gregg of Oldscales in Withopp in the Parish of Lorton and County of  Cum[b]land yeoman being weak and feeble of Body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be God for the same, do make and ordain this my present last Will and Testament in manner and form folowing, First I commend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God my maker hoping through the merotorious death and passion of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to receive pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life, and my Body I commit to the ground to be decently buried at the Discretion of my Executrix hereafter nominated and touching such temporal estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give and dispose it as foloweth – First I will that my Debts and funerall expences be paid and discharged –

First I give and bequeath unto my Brother Robert Gregg one stone trough and one Bedstead standing on the milkhouse loft and two shillings of silver. Item I Give to my Brother Joseph Gregg one shilling. Item I give unto my sister Ann Fletcher one shilling. Item I give unto my Nephy Joseph Fisher one shilling. Item I give unto my Niece Ann Fisher one shilling. Item I give unto my Nephy Robert Grave and Niece Elizabeth Grave each one of them one shilling. Item I give unto my Sister Jane Cirby one shilling. Item I give unto my Nephy John Gregg five shillings and to his son two shillings and sixpence. Item I give unto my Niece Ann Bell one shilling, and to her older son my God son five shillings and to her younger son two shillings and sixpence. Item I give unto my Niece Mary Williamson one shilling. Item I give unto my Niece Ann Grason one shilling. All the rest and resadue of my personall estate goods Chattels and Credits movable and unmovable whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my Loving Wife Catherine Gregg and make her whole and sole executrix of this my present last Will and Testament revoaking all former wills and Testaments. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and thirty one.
