1700. I Thomas Hartley of Churchhouse in Eskdale in this the pish of
Saint Bees and County of Cumberland yeoman beinge in perfect minde
and memory praise be God doe make this my Last Will and Testament
in manner and forme Following
Impris I give and bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God and Christ
Jesus my mercifull saviour and redeemer and my body to be buried
in decent and Christian manner, and as for my worldly goods and estate
I give and bequeath the same as Followeth
I give and bequeath unto my wife Ellinor Hartley all my quick goods
whatsoever Except some sheep which I give unto my Grandchildren
and the said quick goods shall be in ffull for my wife share and part forth
of my personall estate Item I give unto my sonne Nicholas Hartley Eight
pounds the table and ....... and husbandry geare with three poundes of the
Twenty pounds which ... he is to paye after my wife decease with our great Ark
and Chist in the Loft in full for his part. Item I give unto his children forty
shillinges. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Isabell Hartley and
her husband Nicholas Hartley Eight Pounds and three pounds of the said
Twenty poundes which my sonne Nicholas Hartley is to paye after my wife decease
in full
for theire share and part forth of my Estate. Item I give unto their children
forty shillings. Item I give unto my Godsonn Thomas Hartley sonne ....
my sheep which I have at Hollinghow. Item I give unto my two godson
Nicholas Hartley sonne and Edward Tyson sonne, all my sheep which I have at
Underbank. Item I give unto each of my Godchildren which I am [nat Gr..]
father unto one shillinge apeece. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne
Thomas Hartley children [five] of the youngest fortyshillinges apeece
of that Twenty pounds which my said sonne Nicholas is to paye after my
wife decease Item I give unto my sonne in law Edward Tyson two child[ren]
each of them forty shillinges being the remainder of the said Twenty
pounds which my said sonne Nicholas is to paye as aforesaid. Item I give
unto every poore widdow within the Chappellry of Eskdale six pence
apeece Item I give unto my wife Ellinor Hartley all my woll and the
use of all the table [....] chists and Husbandry geare during her natural
life and all the remainder and residue of my goods chattels Rights credits
and personall estate I give and bequeathe unto my sonne Thomas Hartley and
Isabell his wife and to my sonne in law Edward Tyson and Ellinor his wife
whom I make whole and joynt Executors of this my Last Will and
Testament the payeinge my debts Legacies and funerall expences. In witness
