The Will of William Nicholson of Hollinghow 1612

Eskdaill 1612 the xjth day of Julie,

In dei nomine Amen I Willm. Nicholson of hollinghow in Eskdaill sick in my bodie by
the visitation of allmightie god, yet whole and perfect of mynde & remembrance I prayse my good and
gracious god, do constitut or […] and make this my present will & testament in manner and forme following
first I commend my soule into the handes of Jesus Christ my saviour trusting in the merite of god
bitter passion to be one of his elect and chosen children at the day of resurrection, and my bodie to
the ground from whence it came, and to be buried in the Sanctuarie of Saint katherine at Eskdaill
and all dewties there to be paid according to custom. Item I give all the whole [tyt.] and [……….]
which I have booth at hollinghow and yeathouse to henrie nicholson my sonne [da..g]  his dewtie for the
sonne  . Item I will that Agnes my wife occupie of my tenemente as the custome of the manor is [rex.]
Item I give to my first son henrie all forge thinge as my father gave me after my father deathe and
give hym my great chist in the barne; and I will that he have all his own sheep. Item I
give all that I can give by law to my three daughters Agnes nicholsonne, Jenet nicholson
& Isabell nicholson whom I mak my lawful executrices, of all that remaynes And as [god all]
me at this time, I will that my sonne henrie give to his three sisters x£ equalle amongst
them from one to another in consideration of yeathouse  Allso I make the [executors] of this my will to help my wife and
children in there rights for godfather that is to say my father henrie nicholson nicholas hartley
henrie jackson and nicholas nicholson my good brothers, and I desire my father and ----------

2    Margaret Russell reads this as Broadyeat (which is in Thwaite). I read it here and in the inventory as Browyeat, which was (according to 'Past Presented') in Mytredale on the other side of the river to Bakerstead, and occupied by Nicholas Nicholson .
