In dei nomine Am, upon the the twentie fourth day of Ag.. in the yeer of our
Sovereigne Lord Charles by the grace of god of England Scotland France
and Ireland Defender of the Faith the thirteenth, Annoq dnj 1661
I William Vickars of Taithes in Eskdaile, Seek in my bodie by the visi~
~tatione of almightie god, yet perfect and sound in memorie and myde and
judgement praised be almightie god, do constitute and make this my present
latter will and testament in manner and forme as after followeth, considering
that flesh is butt frail, first I co~me~d my soule into the hands of almightie
Jesus my saviour trusting in the merites of his passione to be one of his elect
and chosen and chosen children at the day of retribution and to be placed
among his holy angels, and my bodye to be buried in the churchyard of
Sainct Kathreen in Eskdaile, and all duetyes to be payed theire payed
according to custome, first I give the tenentright of my farmhold
to my sonne Thomas Thomas Vickars, as custome is, and Elizabeth
my wife to occupy of the tenement as the custome of the Lordship
is during her life, and keeping my name. Item I give to my oldest
sonne Thomas ten lambes at clipping tyme everye yeere of three yeeres
the one halfe en lambes and the other halfe toopes and weather lambes
to the end that he may be friendly to my wife and my second sonne
henrye, but he must be content with indifferent lambes, such as they
will bestow upon him. Item I give to him twentie shillings. Item to
Elizabeth his wife two shillings Ite~ I give to Nichol Stevenson younger my
sonne in law ten shillings, Item I give to his wife Elizabeth my daugh
ter two stones of woll to be coates to her, Item I give to Robert Steven
son my elder grandchilde one pound. Item to Williame Stevenson my
younger gra~dchilde two pounds to remaine in the hands of Elizabeth my
wife and of Henrie my younger sonne till the children come to
perfect age paying no use for it before perfect age Item I give to Ro
bert Vickares of westdaillheed two shillings. Item to williame tysonne
of westdailheed servitor to Robert Vickares two shillings, I give to Mar
garet Jaksonne of westdailheed two shillings. Iem I give to fra[ncis]
Nicholson of padakwray three shillings foure pence. Item I give to
Elizabeth bell twelve pence Item Anna Nicholsone one shilling Item
to Johne wilsone three shillings foure pence. Item to Johne moscrop of
craighouse in Irtone two shillings. Item to his wife two shillings. Item
I give to Nichol troughtone at craighouse two shillings. Item to old Rich=
ard Eelleck in Irton one shilling Item to Edward hail one shilling; Item
to Edward Wilsonne, one shilling, Item I give to the wife of Thomas
Tyson brewster in birker one shilling. Item to Mabal holme, one shilling
Item I give to Williame Nicholson of Longrowgreen two shillings, Item I
give to Thomas parker and to every one of my god bayrnes one shilling
apeace, Item I give to James fogo minister of Eskdaile ten shillings
Item I give to Henry Vickares my younger sonne, all the loose boordes
that are about the house. Ite# I give the table and formes standing in the
south side of the house together with the great chaire, and the graiter brasse
pot, and an yron sp[o]et, and an en yron [k]ng kist and two arkes, one [..]eroof
I ordaine that my wife have the uf it, so long as she remaines a widow
Item I give to him a bed that stands in the chamber together with a mattresse
Item I give to him a buttoned broadcloath cloake, Item I give to him a
web of sadde green colour , Item I give to him my ryding osaidle and
bridle, Item I give to Annas tysoine at whaes, six pence

Awing to me by Edward Vickares five shillings, Item bei Thomas Vickares
at Lowholme tail y eonr one shilling eight pence, Item by Williame Nicholson
of Irtone six shillings and seven pence
I appoint Elizabeth Vickares my wife and Henry Vickares my younger sonne
my executors. And debtes and Legacies being payed, I appoint that
my wife sall have the third pairt of my wife free goodes, and that my
sonne Henrye shall have two partes In witnesse whereof I have sett to my
hand before thir witnesses:
