Notes

1    Lived at Charlaw Pit, Witton Gilbert with her parents and then after their death.

2    Elizabeth Jane was listed in the 1861 census as the grand-daughter of Thomas Swindle (1797 - ?). This suggests that she was the daughter of Jane or her brother Thomas. Thomas married a Christiana Harrison in the second quarter of 1852 and a  Elizabeth Jane Harrison was registered in the second quarter of 1852 in the Chester le Street district (FreeBMD 10a 255).  It is much more likely that Elizabeth Jane was the daughter of Christiana Harrison.

3    I would expect the death of Jane Swinedle to have been registered in Chester le Street, though I have not matched the second reference with a known individual.

There was a marriage of a Jane Swindle in Weardale in 1883 to John Joseph Hind or James Longstaff. The other bride was Ann Swindle. Jane, wife of John Joseph Hind, was born in the West Allen about 1850.
