Notes

1    Witnesses his brother Robert's wedding in 1800. Recorded as a labourer in 1814 but a farmer in Knubbock (5km SW of Hexham) in 1816. A labourer at Parkshields (2km NW of Newbrough) in 1818. May have moved to Whittle farm, 2km NNW of Ovingham by 1822 if the identification of Dorothy with Dorothy Swindale is correct.

2    Date of death not known. Surname spelt Swindle in entries for marriage and  baptisms.

c)    Removal order under the Poor Law issued 5th January 1836 relating to "......John Swindle now resident in the Township of Wylam in the Parish of Ovingham ....... who on oath saith that he is now actually chargeable to the said Township of Wylam. That on the Ninth of May in the year 1813 he was hired by John Nicholson of [Summinods??] to be a Hind, that when he was so hired he was a Singleman and that he entered on the 13 day of the said month of May into the said Service and continued then the Year and during the whole of that year he resided in the Township of Hexham in the Parish of Hexham in the said County that he married the 20th day of the said month of May"
