Notes

1    The birth of a Mary A. Swindle is registered at Easington in the first quarter of 1880 (FreeBMD 10a 380) and another at Chester-le-Street in the second quarter of 1880 (FreeBMD 10a 538). The first is probably Mary, daughter of Jackson and Jane Swindle and the second the Mary, the daughter of Charles and Abigail Swindle.

Confirmed by mothers' maiden names.

2    Witness at the marriage of her sister, Jane, in 1904

3    In 1891 and 1901 Mary Ann is living with the Walton family. In 1891 Thomas Clough is also living with the Walton family and is described as 'brother-in-law'. It is therefore probable that Margaret Walton is the sister of Mary Ann's mother Jane Clough.

4    No 'matching' deaths found for a Mary Ann Swindle. A Mary Ann Swindle died on the 27 Nov 1946 (Probate Calendar) in Sacriston, but she was a widow (wife of William Swindle 1865-1946).

5    The other names on the same page of the 1911 marriage register index entry were Arthur Buchanan, Thomas Scott and Elizabeth M Bone.

There is a Mary A Buchanan in Blaydon in the 1939 register but she was born 27 Sep 1880 so cannot be Mary Ann Swindle whose birth was registered 1880 Q1. No Mary Ann Scott of the right age has been found in the 1939 register.
