1    It appears that Thomas's father, Richard, may have been a non-conformist and his children not baptised as infants. An LDS member's submission on the IGI notes Thomas as being born 1727 - possibly a note in the registers TO BE CHECKED. Another son, Daniel, does not appear to have had his children baptised but registered instead at Dr William's Library. The Berkhamsted registers have two adult baptisms of daughters of Richard and Elizabeth Butler and an adult baptism of a William Butler (parents not named) all born around 1720.

2    The Butler Society website notes "Thomas retired to Enfield from business in London. A lost Family Bible showed he had by his wife, Ann, 14 children, living in 1796: Rebecca, Thomas, Henry George, Richard, James, John, Daniel, Robert, Joseph, Ann, Sarah, Keziah and Sophia who was born ca. 1788 (per John Butler of 13 Connaught Gardens, London, N.10, descended from the 2nd child, Thomas)." This agrees exactly with the baptisms noted above.

3    An Anne Butler was buried, aged 73, in St Mary's, Hemel Hempstead on the 30th of December 1804. A Thomas Butler was buried, aged 88, in St Mary's, Hemel Hempstead on the 27th of December 1809.
