Notes

1    An IGI search for Mary Usher's baptism for +/- 5 years around her presumed birth date of 1787 reveals no good candidates (other than a retrospective entry presumably based on the same assumptions). Mary Usher baptised 16th of January 1792 in Borrowdale died 2 days later. Other baptisms in the region are

Mary Usher baptised 4th Feb 1783 at St Bees
16th Feb 1790 St James, Whitehaven
                                            29th Jul 1792 Moresby

The 1851 census lists her place of birth as Crosthwaite (nb not Keswick).

Henry and Mary's entry in the marriage register lists Joseph Usher as a witness. Joseph is likely to have been her brother or father but, as yet, this has given no clues. It is possible that he was the Joseph Usher born in Borrowdale (brother to the Mary who died 1792) and a friend of Henry rather than closely related to Mary.
