probably the daughter of William & Sarah Kelsey, born on the 6th of December 1778 and baptised on the 20th of December 1778 in Buckland, Surrey. 1

Married Daniel Butler on the 24th of October 1799 at St Andrew's, Holborn, London

2    Charlwood is on the Surrey/Sussex border 5km NW of Crawley. The parish includes the farm of Gatwick or Gadwick, site of the racecourse and later the well-known South London airport. There are strong links between William Kelsey and Gadwick. There is reportedly another Charlwood approximately 7km east of Crawley. Buckland is between Reigate and Dorking, 14km north of Crawley. Ifield is 5km south of the first mentioned Charlwood. Daniel mentions property in Ifield in his will.

2    A Sar(ah) Kelsey, daughter of Wm. & Sar. Kelsey, was born on the 6th of December 1778 and baptised on the 20th of December 1778 in Buckland, Surrey. Another daughter was Elizabeth and a son was William. An Elizabeth Kelsey witnessed Sarah and Daniel's wedding. The other witness was William Kelsey.

A Thomas Kelsey, plumber, aged '25', is living in the same house in Farringdon Street as her sons Charles and Henry at the time of the 1841 census.

3    A William Kelsey married a Sall Gatford on the 12th of May 1774 at Slaugham, Sussex (9km south of Crawley)

4    There are 13 deaths registered for 'Sarah Butler' in Middlesex or Surrey between Sep 1837 and Mar 1841.

5    A Sarah Butler aged '60' is listed in the 1841 census in Marylebone but is a 'Female Servant' and thus unlike to be the widow of Daniel.

A Sarah Butler aged '60' is listed in the 1841 census in Manor Street, Clapham, Surrey 'of independent means' but a couple of doors away is a Harriet Butler aged 70, probably the mother of Harriet Streatfield.
