1    Ann Swindle in Heads Lane, who can reasonably be identified as Jacob's widow, is 77 at the time of the 1881 census. The death of an Ann Swindle in 1882 aged 79 is recorded in the Cockermouth registers in the fourth quarter. These ages are consistent with the July 1803 baptism. An Ann Forrest was baptised in Allendale on the 1st of April 1803 but is probably the Ann Forrest who married John Varty on the 28th of March 1829 in St Peter's, Allendale - this Ann Forrest would have been 78 at the time of the 1881 census.
