Notes

1    In the 1802 entry of the Whickham registers, Elizabeth is said to be the daughter of Christopher Swindle of Allendale, but in 1807, 1809 and 1815 she is said to be the daughter of George Swindle of Allendale. The apparent error in 1802 is peculiar - had she been brought up by her uncle Christopher Swindal who was apparently childless?

2    Robert Blackett is described as 'mariner', as contrasted with 'keelman', but is still likely to be connected with the coal trade.
