Notes

1    At the time of the 1851 census Francis was living with his father at Hillersdon Terrace, Nenthead and working as a lead ore washer. In the 1861 census he was still living at Hillersdon Terrace, but now working as a smelter with his sister Mary acting as his housekeeper.   Francis' oldest brother Joseph had moved to Wallsend between 1851 and 1856 and Francis followed (about 1863), but still as a smelter (1865)  in a lead works. At the time of the 1881 census he was a hydraulic crane man at the works and by the time of his death he had advanced to foreman.3
