Notes

1    In the 1881 census Hannah is 2 years younger than Robert but in the 1891 and 1901 censuses she is two years older (Thomas has 'lost' two years off his true age). Robert was born in 1830 so Hannah was probably born in 1828. Hannnah, daughter of Thomas and Mary is the most likely candidate from the IGI records which have shown themselves fairly complete in the West Allen at this period. Rosemary Roy has other information on the Bell family who were living at Hesleywell at the time of the 1841 census.

2    In 1861 Robert and Hannah are living at Hearty Cleugh, with Thomas Bell and his family - probably Hannah's father.
