Notes

1    There were two John Swindles born at Limestone Brae in 1832, one the son of John (baptised 10th June) and the other the son of George his brother (baptised 15th April). One died in 1859, the other was buried on 25th June 1832 at the age of two months. George and Margaret, had another son, William, in 1833 which is unlikely if Margaret were still nursing John. John, son of John and Jane is listed on the 1841 census and the 1851 census. I have concluded therefore that it was George's son who died in 1832.

2    In the inclosure of 1792/1800 John's grandfather's allotment in respect of Limestone Brae was just over 12 acres. I haven't made an accurate assessment yet but it seems unlikely that his share of Limestone Brae amounted to as much as 20 acres. It appears that John's father managed to acquire extra land.
