Notes

1901 census. This John Swindle is identified as the John Swindle in the 1901 census on the basis of his age, birthplace and naming his daughter Rachel.

There is only one other John Swindle of the right age and birthplace in the 1901 census

Identified on basis of age and location

    1861 census

    From John Swindle's birth certificate

Not found in 1881 census - the John Swindle of the right age at Iveston, Co. Durham is almost certainly John Swindle. However there is a John Swinley found by Norman Swindle in Prudhoe who is almost certainly this John - aged 29, born in Allendale and not found in earlier/later census nor in birth registers. John's wife's parents are living just two doors away!
