Hello my name is Malcolm James Graham and I am researching my family roots. We may have a common ancestor in the name of Margaret Swindale/Swindale/Swindley. My interest is in her son Thomas Swindale Graham who was alive in 1871 but not around in 1881 possibly worked on a ship destined for Australia. He had a brother Edward Alfred Graham who ultimately died in Australia. I have attached below except from my tree which you can review if desired on ancestry .com  under The graham family tree as at 1/12/2014. I hope the info below is of assistance to youfor your tree but if you can shed any light on Thomas that would be great as I have spent a great deal of time trying to locate his year and whereabouts of his death.

Edward Graham - Occupation = Blacksmith. Sometime before 1838 Edward moved from Warden to Newcastle. He married Margaret in 1838 at St. Michaels church Newcastle upon Tyne. They lived in Tynemouth where he was employed as a Blacksmith. Margaret died in 1866 at Tynemouth, in this year Edward moved down to Westham and employed as a Ship smith and where he remarried to Mary Forbes in 1868. Unable to confirm with accuracy any records of death other than the census record as at 28/11/2012. Margaret Swindale The daughter of John Swindale and Dorothy Robson was born 7th Jan. 1816 at Hexham and died at Chirton, Tynemouth in 1866.There is a mix up in surnames for Margret and her first son Thomas as several documents refer them as Swindale, Swindle and some to Swindley. 1st son. Thomas Swindale Graham born 16/5/1841. Occupation = Engineer possibly sea going. This one is a mystery yet to be solved as at 12/12/14. The name on his birth certificate is Thomas Swindle Graham,on his Baptism cert. it is Swindle, on his marriage cert. it is Swindley, on his sons John G. Graham's birth cert. it is again Swindley then on J.G.G's marriage it is back to Swindle. As the dates etc. tie up I have assumed the middle name to be Swindale which is the Former married name of his mother Margaret Swindale. In the 1871 census his wife Sarah Jane is recorded as the head of house and the wife of an engineer with no mention of Thomas. In the 1881 census again Sarah is the Head of house but is now titled as widow. I have searched in vain for any reference to the death of Thomas Swindle "y" Graham without any success. 2nd son,. Edward Alfred Graham born 27/7/1851 in Tynemouth died 30/11/1890 at Footscray Victoria Australia. He married Eleanot Weymiss in 1875 in Melbourne.      Hope to hear from you soon.
